In a letter in today’s Times, Olivier Bancoult calls for the Foreign Secretary to drop the appeal to the House of Lords against the quashing of orders designed to ban the Chagossians from their islands.

Bancoult writes: “Calls for justice in the world are hollow as long as Britain denies justice to its own people. If, as he says, Mr Miliband wants ‘a Britain that lives out its values at home and advances them abroad’, he can start by letting us go home.”

David Miliband is to give his first major speech as Foreign Secretary this afternoon at Chatham House on ‘The New Diplomacy: Challenges for British Foreign Policy’.

A question and answer session will follow. Supporters will be there and intend to ask Mr Miliband where the Chagossians fit into all this, in the light of the Foreign Office’s continuing attempts to deny them their rights…

A letter in today’s Times, signed by several parliamentarians, calls for the FCO to stop rowing against the reformist tide, and give the Chagossians justice.
