Chagos Football Tournament this Sunday
The Chagos Football Association will be hosting a football tournament this Sunday (25th October) at Hazelwick School in Three Bridges (Crawley) from 11AM to 7PM. Several teams, made up Chagossians players, will compete in a tournament which will begin and end that day.
The tournament is free to attend but marks the beginning of efforts to raise funds to get the Chagos Islands International Football team to the CONIFA World Cup next year in Abkhazia (a semi-autonomous region of Ukraine).
The team has made considerable progress over the past few years and now for the first time has an opportunity to play at the highest level possible for non-FIFA affiliated teams.
Refreshments will be available to buy at the game on Saturday and all proceeds will go straight to funding the team's trip to the tournament next year.
If you can't make the game you can still donate to the Chagos FA fund via the 'Sports' option on Chagos Refugee Group's Donate page
Representing their country is a great way for young Chagossians, born in exile, to connect with their hertitage. Seeing the Chagossian team in action at the highest possible level will also help raise awareness globally of a far too often neglected cause.
