Join the Chagos Football Team in Crawley this Sunday
The Chagos Islands International Football Team will grace the World Stage this summer at the CONIFA World Cup in Abkhazia, but this Sunday you can join the players in Crawley for a special fundraising event. Funds raised will ensure that, now the hard work of qualification is done, Chagossian players can afford flights to the tournament.
All the Chagossian community and their supporters are welcome to attend the bingo party fundraising event and celebratory team presentation in Crawley on 7 February (Sunday). Things get started at 13:30 at Broadfield Community Centre.
If you can not make the event but would still like to contribute, you can donate via the Chagos Refugee Group website by donating to the Sports Fund.
The CONIFA World Cup is the largest international football tournament for countries not recongised by football's main governing body FIFA.
Sabrina Jean, who is Secretary of the Chagos Islands Football Association, explained to Crawley News why the tournament is so important. “Representing the Chagos Islands National Football Team allows young Chagossians, born in exile, to connect with their heritage.”
If you want to know more about the team or to help support them in any way, please contact Sabrina Jean via firstname.lastname@example.org.
UK Chagos Support Association helped fund this fundraising event which should help secure Chagossian presence at this summer's event. Thank you for your donations: none of our work would be possible without the generous contributions of individual supporters.
