Chagossians hustings: Crawley MP candidates to take questions from Chagossian community
On Wednesday April 31st from 7:30 to 8:30PM the candidates standing to be the next MP for Crawley will debate in front of an audience of Chagossians at the Broadfield Community Centre. They will give opening statements about how they will help the community, and take questions from the audience.
Henry Smith, Conservative candidate and MP for Crawley since 2010, will be joined by Labour Party candidate Tim Lunnon, currently a councillor for Broadfield South ward, and Liberal Democrat candidate
Any Chagossian is welcome to come and there is no admission charge. The event has been organised by UK Chagos Support Association and one of our volunteers will chair the debate.
We’d ask any Chagossians living in the Crawley area to submit questions they want to ask now. The most popular questions will then be selected and put candidates.
Crawley contains the largest population of Chagossians in the UK, with estimates putting community’s number at over 3000. Conservative Henry Smith has been the MP since the 2010 election, where he replaced his Labour predecessor Laura Moffatt.
