Volunteer with UK Chagos Support Association

Looking for a New Years Resolution where you can make a real difference? Join our entirely voluntary team as we support the Chagossian fight for justice. As well as campaigning, we support various Chagossian community projects and issue crisis grants for Chagossians experiencing extreme hardship.

We have no paid staff and no offices, so we rely on a small team of volunteers to do all of this.

If your interested in getting involved, here's a few roles were especially keen to fill at the moment. But we're always looking for volunteers of all sorts, so whatever your background and interest we'd love to hear from you. Please email contact@chagossupport.org.uk for more details.

Media Manager

A big part of our work is raising the profile of the Chagossian fight for justice. And to do that, we need to get our message out there across the whole spectrum of media, nationally and internationally.

We need a Media Manager to join our dedicated team of volunteers. Some of the projects you’ll work on will include

  • Writing press releases

  • Building relationships with key media professionals across the sector

  • Working with the Chagossian community to build compelling case studies

  • Planning media activity around key events, such as community celebrations, political and legal action and anniversaries

  • Reacting to media opportunities as and when

Any experience is a bonus, but it is not required. We’re big believers in learning by doing and you’ll have lots of chances to try new things.

We also know this is a voluntary position, and realise you won’t always be available to help out. All we’d expect is a couple of hours per week. And our existing volunteers will be hand to help out and help you learn the ropes.

If you are interested in this role, please email contact@Chagossupport.org.uk. Please send a recent CV, if you have one, just to give us an idea of how we might best use your skills and experiences.

Social Media Specialist

We need a Social Media Manager to join our dedicated team of volunteers. Some of the projects you’ll work on will include

  • Updating our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Youtube channels

  • Planning out content in advance for all channels

  • Researching the most effective way to use each channel

  • Monitoring social media channels, reacting to ‘trending’ topics and managing replies to posts

  • Developing currently underused Instagram, Youtube and Linkedin accounts.

  • Coordinating work with other social media volunteers

Any experience is a bonus, but it is not required. We’re big believers in learning by doing and you’ll have lots of chances to try new things.

We also know this is a voluntary position, and realise you won’t always be available to help out. All we’d expect is a couple of hours per week. And our existing volunteers will be hand to help out and help you learn the ropes.

If you are interested in this role, please email contact@Chagossupport.org.uk. Please send a recent CV, if you have one, just to give us an idea of how we might best use your skills and experiences.

Fundraising Manager

Our entirely voluntary support group depends entirely on donations from supporters. We need a fundraising manager to focus raising the funds that allow us to support the Chagossian fight for justice, support Chagossian community projects and help Chagossians experiencing severe hardship.

Projects you will work on will include:

  • Developing a fundraising strategy for the next year

  • Coming up with ideas to attract donations from existing and new supporters

  • Helping to develop a range of merchendise to raise both funds and awareness

  • Working with our Treasurer to process donations and how they will be used

  • Researching potential benefits / risks of applying for charitable status

Any experience is a bonus, but it is not required. We’re big believers in learning by doing and you’ll have lots of chances to try new things.

We also know this is a voluntary position, and realise you won’t always be available to help out. All we’d expect is a couple of hours per week. And our existing volunteers will be hand to help out and help you learn the ropes.

If you are interested in this role, please email contact@Chagossupport.org.uk. Please send a recent CV, if you have one, just to give us an idea of how we might best use your skills and experiences.
